Primary Responsibilities:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct services to the clients at our comfortable and safe home environments. The goal of the DSP is to support the client in their functional health, safety, educational, and psychosocial needs. The DSP empowers our individuals to live independently, integrate into their community and achieve their personal goals.

  • Become familiar with the program plan for each consumer in the facility.
  • Understand behavior modification techniques and how to correctly implement them.
  • Implement exercises designed to improve or maintain mobility range of motion and self-help skills.
  • Document incidents that occur.
  • Implement treatment for each consumer.
  • Maintain current progress notes and data frequency counts on each consumer assigned to them.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Instill acceptable behavior in others.
  • Participate in orientation and training of new staff.
  • Act as a member of interdisciplinary team and provide input into consumer progress and overall condition.
  • Assist consumers in all areas of grooming and personal hygiene skills.
  • Perform basic medical treatment as prescribed and pass medication as directed.
  • Ensure open lines of communication with other staff members.
  • Assist in supervision of meal preparation and housekeeping chores as assigned.
  • Exercise mature judgment and relate to consumers in a warm, caring, and non- expletive means.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and home like manner of the facility.
  • Participate in client’s recreation programs.
